What is Umoja?

Umoja, a Kiswahili word meaning unity, is a part of the statewide Umoja community that seeks to educate the whole student— mind, body, and spirit, and engage African American and other students as full participants in the construction of knowledge and critical thought. Umoja seeks to significantly prepare students and increase transfer rates to 4-year colleges and universities.

Donations are applied to...

The money raised will be used to fund scholarships to help deserving students complete their education and help provide financial assistance to Umoja students facing unforeseen financial emergencies that may disrupt their education.

Why participate?

Investing in education is the single most effective way to better a community and your investment in the MiraCosta College Umoja Program will support a student population that has consistently lower rates of success in their courses compared to all other ethnic groups. Umoja is a critical resource that promotes success through a curriculum and pedagogy responsive to the legacy of the African and African American Diasporas. In other words, your contribution and attendance at Soul Fusion 5 will make a difference.
