The MiraCosta College Umoja Program, a Kiswahili word meaning unity, is a part of the statewide Umoja Community that seeks to educate the whole student — mind, body, and spirit, and engage African American and other students as full participants in the construction of knowledge and critical thought. Umoja prepares students to successfully transfer to 4 year colleges and universities.
The money raised will be used to fund scholarships to help deserving students complete their education and help provide financial assistance to Umoja students facing unforeseen financial emergencies that may disrupt their education. Each year Umoja provides a $1000.00 scholarship to one transfer student and one returning student. Money raised also supports students experiencing financial hardship with up to $1500.00 disbursed per semester.
Investing in education is the single most effective way to better a community and your investment in the MiraCosta College Umoja Program will support our vision to transform, enrich, and advance the lives of our students. Each semester we support students with textbooks, housing, transportation and other emergency needs. In other words, your contribution and attendance at Soul Fusion will make a difference. If you cannot attend our fundraising event, we invite you to make a custom donation in support of the Umoja program.
